IBADAN, OYO STATE — The Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar, is leading a high-level delegation to Oyo State to pay homage to two of Yorubaland’s foremost traditional rulers as part of wider consultations ahead of the 2027 presidential election and efforts to build support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term bid.
The delegation is visiting the Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Imperial Majesty Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja (Arusa I), and the Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade. The visits underscore the importance of dialogue with traditional institutions and community leaders on matters of national development, peace, cultural heritage and Nigeria’s political future.
The engagement forms part of ongoing political consultations with influential stakeholders across the country. Such visits provide an opportunity for the campaign leadership to exchange views, strengthen relationships and discuss national priorities, while recognising the enduring role of traditional rulers as custodians of culture and important voices in their communities.
The Olubadan and the Alaafin hold prominent places in the history, culture and traditional governance of Oyo State and Yorubaland. Courtesy visits to their palaces therefore carry cultural and civic significance, reflecting the continuing relevance of traditional institutions in Nigeria’s public life.
As political consultations continue ahead of the next presidential election, the delegation’s visit signals the APC campaign’s intention to broaden engagement with traditional authorities and other stakeholders in support of President Tinubu’s proposed second term.
The visit also highlights the intersection of culture, governance and democratic politics, with traditional institutions continuing to contribute to community dialogue, social cohesion and development.
