TINUBU NEW MEDIA DEMANDS ACCOUNTABILITY FROM STATE GOVERNORS AFTER INCREASED ALLOCATION FROM SUBSIDY

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has taken significant steps to strengthen the financial capacity of states by ensuring that substantially more resources flow to them from the Federation Account.
The question Nigerians must now ask is: What are our governors doing with the increased allocations available to their states?
Nigeria operates a federal system of government. The President cannot simply dictate to governors how every naira accruing to their states must be spent. Governors were elected to govern, develop their states, formulate policies and prudently deploy public resources for the benefit of their people.
With increased revenues must come increased responsibility and accountability.
If a state receives significantly higher allocations, its citizens should reasonably expect to see corresponding improvements in roads, healthcare, education, water supply, agriculture, security support, employment opportunities and other critical infrastructure and social services.
We cannot continue to attribute every developmental challenge across the 36 states to the Presidency while overlooking the constitutional responsibilities of state governments.
The Renewed Hope Agenda has provided an opportunity through improved fiscal resources. It is now incumbent upon governors to translate those resources into tangible development that ordinary Nigerians can see and feel.
Where state resources are mismanaged, wasted or misappropriated, the appropriate officials must be held accountable. Nigerians should demand transparency not only from the Federal Government but also from governors, local government administrations and every institution entrusted with public funds.
Accountability must not stop at Abuja. It must extend to every Government House and every level of government across Nigeria.
More resources should mean more development.
More revenue should mean better governance.
And greater responsibility must come with greater accountability.
