In the heart of Yorubaland, royal palaces open their gates to a message of continuity, unity, and renewed hope.
On Thursday, 15 October 2026, a high-powered delegation of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, led by its Director-General, Senator Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari, paid a courtesy visit to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, at his palace in Oke-Aremo, Ibadan. Joining the team was High Chief Government Ekpemupolo (Tompolo), Grand Patron of the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement, alongside former governors Gbenga Daniel, Olusegun Mimiko and Rochas Okorocha, Special Adviser Sunday Dare, Oyo APC governorship candidate Senator Sharafadeen Alli, and other party leaders.
Members of the Olubadan-in-Council and market women led by the Iyaloja of Ibadanland welcomed the visitors in a warm atmosphere of traditional respect and political dialogue*. The engagement reflected a deliberate effort to connect the federal campaign with the deep cultural roots of Oyo State, seeking the monarch’s blessings for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term bid and for peaceful, people-centred mobilisation.
The same day, the campaign leadership also reached the Alaafin of Oyo, His Imperial Majesty Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade. Senator Yari presented the case for continuity, highlighting national unity, cohesion, and ongoing socio-economic reforms. In response, the Alaafin commended the delegation, pledged his support for the President’s re-election, and urged the campaign council to prioritise peaceful, responsible, and unity-driven engagement across the state and nation. The moment underscored the enduring role of traditional institutions as pillars of stability and guidance in Nigeria’s democratic process.
Complementing these palace visits, the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement formally inaugurated its Oyo State structure at Liberty Stadium in Ibadan*. *High Chief Tompolo, through his representative Chief Kestin Pondi (Managing Director of Tantita Security Services), presented 32 vehicles to strengthen grassroots mobilisation*. He reminded the people of Oyo that President Tinubu is one of their own and called on them to ensure he completes the southern turn, consolidating reforms that have increased resources available to state governments for salaries, pensions, and major projects.
National Coordinator Sunday Asuku and APC candidate Senator Alli reinforced the message, describing the reforms as necessary for sustained growth and urging Oyo residents—especially the youth—to carry the message door-to-door*. The vehicles and structure signalled a commitment to direct engagement rather than distant rhetoric, aiming to take the conversation about continuity into homes, markets, and communities across the state.
Taken together, the day’s events painted a picture of purposeful collaboration. A northern senator leading the national campaign council stood alongside a Niger Delta high chief and Yoruba royal fathers.
The visits and the mobilisation launch emphasised shared interests in stability, development, and the completion of ongoing reforms. For supporters of the Renewed Hope Agenda, the image of traditional rulers receiving the campaign team and offering blessings offered a positive signal of cultural legitimacy and grassroots readiness ahead of the 2027 elections.
In Ibadan and Oyo, the message that emerged was straightforward: continuity, respect for institutions, and a call for Oyo people to stand with their son so that the work already underway can be deepened for the benefit of the state and the nation.
